Job Summary

Pinkston, a leading and dynamic Washington, D.C.-based communications firm, is looking for an experienced, strategic, and creative writer to collaborate with account managers and company executives to support campaigns for our clients. At its core, Pinkston helps clients in a diverse range of industries to find and fine-tune their stories and then share them with the world in a compelling and impactful way.

The writer will work at our Falls Church, Virginia office; this role is a mid-level position with a salary negotiable based on experience.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • The Staff Writer will produce a wide range of written materials, including messaging, op-eds, press releases, media advisories, press statements, white papers, and talking points.

  • Writers will engage in the client onboarding discovery process in gaining insight into the client's desired messaging outcome, and collaborate with PR/Com thought leaders in executing the assigned project within the designated time frame.

  • This role may include supporting the PR/Com team by reviewing and editing the work of other writers and account colleagues for clarity, grammar, and style.

Qualifications and Skills

Summary: This is a writing position. The ideal candidate must have experience in a wide range of writing styles and can demonstrate strong strategic thinking, an understanding of current events and the news cycle, and a sharp eye for detail, as well as be able to work in a fast-paced environment with quick deadlines.

Candidate Profile:

  • At least two years of writing experience, with a background and experience in journalism strongly preferred.

  • Ability to balance multiple, diverse clients

  • Strong research skills

  • An ability to write on a deadline

  • Initiative to self-start and problem-solve independently in a fast-paced creative environment

  • Ability to work well in a small team of public relations professionals

  • Familiarity with the editing process and willingness to collaborate with key stakeholders to create content that meets client expectations.

  • A solid grasp of Associated Press Style is required.

An undergraduate degree in English, journalism, creative writing, or a related field is beneficial.

Qualified Candidates will be requested to submit a writing test.

Writing Landscape:

Pinkston’s client base is diverse and includes companies, organizations, and authors working in health care, education, technology, defense, politics, and numerous other fields. Applicants should be capable of learning and translating complicated ideas for general-interest and industry trade audiences. Candidates should have at least two years of writing experience in the above fields. Candidates should have the capacity to craft clear, succinct arguments and be experienced in persuasive writing (e.g. Editorials, op-eds, etc).
